Optichron DPD Processors Provide High-Performance, Universal Platforms for Multi-Standard Basestations
Wireless infrastructure manufacturers and carriers continue to demand expanded capacity, performance and flexibility in network planning and management. Cost-effective solutions that provide a smooth transition from 2G to 3G and 4G protocols have become required. With our latest OP6180 digital pre-distortion (DPD) processor, Optichron delivers Class 1, 8-carrier 30MHz MC-GSM performance and advances the ability for basestation design, deployment and management that meets this Multi-Protocol demand. The OP6180 devices are universal and able to process any protocol or mix of protocols. This enables the creation of flexible, future-proof platforms that can adapt dynamically to meet changing network demands.

OP6180 Family
This single chip DPD processors use our second-generation linearization technology and include the integration of Optichron's crest factor reduction (CFR) engine to deliver Class 1, 8-carrier MC-GSM performance and IMD suppression of more than -70dBc. Achievable levels of ACPR improvement are on the order of 30dB when operating a Doherty class PA processing CDMA, WCDMA, WiMAX or LTE signals and operating the PA at efficiency levels in excess of 40%. In a MC-GSM environment using a similar Doherty class PA, designers can expect an ACPR performance improvement of greater than 40dB with efficiencies greater than 30%. The family delivers 20 and 30MHz of signal bandwidth for MC-GSM (2G) and 35 to 50MHz of signal bandwidth for 3G and 4G protocols. This superior bandwidth and performance eliminates barriers to multi-protocol (2G, 3G and 4G) basestations and RAN sharing. Target application protocols include GSM/EDGE, CDMA, CDMA2000, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, WiMAX, 3G, LTE, WiBro, DTV and point-to-point communications.

The OP6180 family includes two devices:

  • OP6180-1 with 20MHz of 2G and 35MHz of 3G/4G signal bandwidth
  • OP6180-2 with 30MHz of 2G and 50MHz of 3G/4G signal bandwidth
  • 27mm x 27mm PBGA package
  • Operation over full industrial temperature range of -40° to 85°C
  • Does not require an external processor, support circuitry or algorithmic programming
  • Supports any PA configuration, modulation scheme or signal chain architecture

OP4400 Family
The OP4400 is a single chip DPD device that significantly enhances the performance of wireless transmitters without requiring an external processor or peripheral circuitry. Typical levels of ACPR improvement are on the order of 30dB when operating a Doherty class amplifier processing WCDMA, CDMA or WiMAX compliant signals, and operating the amplifier at efficiency levels in excess of 40%. When operating in a MC-GSM environment using the same Doherty class amplifier, one can expect an SFDR performance improvement of greater than 40dBc when compared to performance without the use of our DPD. Additional benefit is derived from the extended bandwidth capability of the OP4400, allowing customers to transmit signal bandwidths of up to 30MHz (with the OP4400-30).

The OP4400 family includes devices in two different packages:

  • OP4400-20: Up to 20MHz of signal bandwidth, 27mm x 27mm package
  • OP4400-30: Up to 30MHz of signal bandwidth, 27mm x 27mm package
  • OP4400-15: Up to 15MHz of signal bandwidth, 14mm x 14mm package
  • OP4400-20: Up to 20MHz of signal bandwidth, 14mm x 14mm package
  • Operation over full industrial temperature range of -40° to 85°C
  • Does not require an external processor, support circuitry or algorithmic programming
  • Supports any PA configuration, modulation scheme or signal chain architecture
